Preparing For Plastic Surgery

admin asked:

Many people seem to think that just having plastic surgery done will change everything. However, it is important to note that proper preparation is vital to a successful experience. This is important not only for people who have plastic surgery done for reconstructive purposes, but also for people who are having it done for cosmetic reasons. Plastic surgery changes things about you, and some people need emotional, as well as physical, help adjusting to those changes. This is especially vital for plastic surgery patients who need to have the surgery as part of a recovery from a severe accident or illness.

For emergency surgery, or for reconstructive surgery, there is very little physical preparation that can take place. The person undergoing the surgery may not even be aware of it. This is why it is important for someone close to the patient to prepare for when the person is confronted by the new reality he or she is living in. A psychologist or counselor can help with this process. Additionally, it would not hurt for a close friend or relative to consult on what he or she can do to help the patient. A good support system needs to be prepared in such cases.

But a good support system is necessary in any case of plastic surgery, even the cosmetic surgery cases. Someone may not fully realize the emotional impact a new look can have on her or him until the surgery is complete. Many ethical and conscientious plastic surgeons make sure that the prospective patient has a psychiatric evaluation before performing the surgery, and some require a couple of counseling sessions prior performing the surgery. This is especially true in cases of plastic surgery that involve gender changes. Proper preparation before such a plastic surgery procedure is extremely necessary. Even though someone might feel as though he or she is finally getting the body that always belonged to him or her, the immensity of the change can still come as a shock.

Physical preparations for plastic surgery are also in order. When the plastic surgery includes procedures to reduce weight, it is important to begin exercising and changing eating habits. Even after the surgery, the body can revert back if no lifestyle changes are made. Exercise and proper eating can also help the body boost its overall wellness, meaning that you will be able to better handle the surgery. It is important that you are as healthy as possible when going in for cosmetic surgery. Even if the surgery is meant to correct obesity, it is possible for you to improve your overall health before going in for surgery.

Finally, many plastic surgeons offer advice and a checklist of things to do in order to get ready for the surgery. It is important that you follow these instructions carefully, so that you have the best possible outcome from your surgery. The directions given by a plastic surgeon are for your own good, and they will help you have a better recovery, both physically and emotionally.

Veneers: the Perfect Façade

admin asked:

‘Looks don’t matter’ is a saying of the past. Nowadays, every individual is conscious of his or her looks, irrespective of age or gender. Individuals in film and entertainment industry and show business are not the only ones to be always prim and proper; persons engaged in every profession want to look good. Good looks today include improving every part of the body, starting from the hair till the toe, and a very important aspect is the pair of teeth. You can also have a gorgeous smile using veneers and other cosmetic dentistry procedures.

People can change and modify their looks by a number of ways, for example with exercise, dieting, plastic surgery, hair cutting and coloring, hair implantation, skin treatments, cosmetic surgeries on different parts of the body, etc. In order to understand cosmetic dentistry, one first needs to understand what cosmetic surgery is. It is a specialized field in medicine that aims at perfecting physical flaws in different body parts. Cosmetic dentistry is concerned with improving the mouth and denture and thereby enhancing the aesthetic beauty of the smile. Cosmetic dentistry is often referred to as smile cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry techniques involve teeth straitening, implants, whitening, and veneer.

Teeth veneer is a procedure, which is used in concealing the gaps between teeth and also for teeth whitening. Veneers are ultra thin laminate made of porcelain or plastic cement. These are small shell-like coverings that are fixed on the existing teeth. Cosmetic dentistry veneers provide a perfect façade for the teeth that had been discolored and asymmetrical.

Cosmetic dentistry veneers have several advantages; they help in improving and restoring the color and structure of teeth immensely. Teeth, which get chipped off in accidents, can also be restored with the help of porcelain veneers. The use of braces to cover and fill gaps between teeth are sometimes not enough and therefore porcelain veneers are used. Since porcelain veneers are translucent and therefore they give the teeth a normal appearance. They cannot be distinguished from the natural teeth in the oral cavity. Cosmetic dentistry with veneers do not allow staining.

These porcelain veneers are scientifically crafted in such a way that they completely resemble the natural tooth enamel. Grafting of porcelain veneers require professional skill and experience. The dentist determines the type of cosmetic veneer to be used in different shaped faces. Then some enamel from the teeth is removed and the temporary veneer is placed on the teeth using local anesthesia. An impression of teeth is taken and sent to the dental laboratory. The permanent shape is crafted there and implanted on the marked tooth. Depending on the extent of the procedure, it may take few hours to two to three separate sitting. Proper care should be taken to protect the veneers from chipping or coming off.

Porcelain veneers used in cosmetic dentistry are expensive and in most of the cases are not covered under insurance. The expense depends on the number of tooth that are to be treated. The longevity is incomparable; therefore the expense should not be an issue of concern.

Considering Cosmetic Changes Of Your Nose? Learn About Different Types Of Rhynoplasty

admin asked:

Rarely will you find people who are satisfied about their noses. Then there are people, who are born with nose defects causing constricted breathing troubles life long or the people who have damaged their noses in accidents. Rhinoplasty as a branch of plastic surgery was developed as a corrective surgery to help people get rid of all these flaws—either created naturally or artificially in the latter course of life.

However, in recent years, rhynoplasty has earned more popularity as a cosmetic procedure; that is to say, rhynoplasty is increasingly being viewed as the means for bringing aesthetic changes in the face.

The procedure

Despite its popularity, rhynoplasty remains one of the most complicated branches of cosmetic surgery. However, despite being a difficult operation, this nose reshaping surgery is performed on hundreds of thousands of patients each year. The difficulty lies in the fact that the plastic surgeon has to perform the entire surgery mainly by feeling it by their hands.

Irrespective of the objective of the surgery—reduction or enhancement in the nose size, hiding the scars or improvement of the breathing process— rhinoplasty is generally performed in a doctor’s clinic on an outpatient basis. The choice between the applications of local or general anesthesia depends on the patient’s over all health. The rhinoplasty techniques can be divided into two main groups: closed and open.

Closed rhinoplasty

This technique is adopted where minor reshaping is required. In these cases, most surgeons and prefer to make incisions within the nose and this incision is made to push the surgical instruments to separate the skin of the nose from the bone and cartilage. After bone and cartilage are removed, they are then reshaped and rearranged to give the nose the desired shape. When the task of reshaping is over, the nose tissues are spread over the newly shaped structures. In the end the incisions are closed.

Open rhinoplasty

This technique is adopted at the time when a major nose reshaping is required. In this case, it is not convenient to make incisions inside the nose. There is a vertical strip of skin called columella that separates the nostrils. When a major reshaping is required, the incisions are made over this area of the nose. This is comparatively more complex procedure and referred to as “open” rhinoplasty.

After the incisions are closed, some puffy materials are pushed inside the nose along the nasal air passages as padding to support the renewed structure. In most of the cases, an external splint is applied additionally to assist the nose acquire its new shape. This splint which the patient has to carry over his nose for at least six to eight days also helps in the healing process.
