Best Collagen Firming Lotions: Better Than Plastic Surgery?
Are you thinking about getting plastic surgery because you’ve given up on find a truly effective firming lotion? Are you turning to surgery because it seems that every skin care product on the market has been unable to deliver on its promise to give you younger, firmer skin? Well, I’m here to tell you that going under the knife to improve your appearance is completely unnecessary. You just need to know what to look for and what to avoid when it comes to finding the best collagen firming lotions.
The #1 reason that the majority of firming lotions don’t work is because they don’t address the three main causes of aging skin. I’ll talk more about that in a minute.
Big business, being what it is, means that most cosmetic companies are only interested in their bottom line…and not in the lines you’re seeing on your face.
Their outdated, ineffective approach to skin care involves making products with the cheapest, synthetic ingredients while spending millions on slick advertising.
They know that beautiful magazine ads or T.V. commercials featuring popular celebrities touting their latest firming lotion is the most effective way to get people to open up their wallets and buy their “jars of junk.”
The newest promotional fad is to include “collagen” in their skin firming products. Many people are aware that collagen is an essential substance when it comes to maintaining your skin’s firmness and elasticity. But what they, and you, may not know is that these collagen firming lotions are virtually useless. The molecules that make up this cosmetic collagen are too large to be absorbed and used by your skin cells.
The only way for collagen to have a true firming effect on your skin is to be produced from within your own skin cells. Which brings me back to the three causes of aging that I previously mentioned.
One of the first things that happens as we age is that our natural production of collagen and elastins begins to slow down. This is when we begin to notice the bagging and sagging of our skin.
Next, our levels of hyaluronic acid, also known as the “youth molecule” begin to decrease. Exposure to sun and environmental pollution are two reasons we begin to lose this important substance. When this happens, lines, wrinkles and blotches begin to appear on our face.
Last, but not least, the increased production of free radicals adds to the alarming effects of aging that we see on our faces.
These three causes of aging skin take place at the cellular level. This means that the best collagen firming lotions must be able to stimulate and revitalize the healthy function of your skin cells.
The synthetic chemical ingredients that make up the majority of skin firming products only serve to smother your pores and promote breakouts and inflammation. Their only real purpose is to smell good and feel creamy to the touch. For many people, this is all they need to believe that the product will work.
The reason the best collagen firming lotions ARE the best is because they contain high concentrations of active, nature-based substances like Cynergy TK, a bioactive form of keratin, which is an essential protein for skin structure. In clinical testing on human volunteers, Cynergy TK has been found to be quite effective at stimulating the natural production of collagen and elastins.
Phytessence Wakame, a special form of sea kelp, is another natural substance that has been found to increase your natural levels of hyaluronic acid. Sea kelp is a beauty secret that the women of Japan, famous for their youthful appearance, have know about for centuries.
Co Q10 enzyme is well known as a powerful antioxidant. I have found that the best collagen firming lotions contain a special nano-emulsion form of this enzyme called Nano-Lipobelle H EQ10. This form of Co Q10 is better able to penetrate deep into the layers of the skin to gobble-up harmful free radicals.
Just remember…the best collagen firming lotions WILL NOT contain collagen. A truly effective firming lotion will contain only high concentrations of active, natural ingredients, backed up by clinical testing.

There you will find some very interesting information about the best collagen firming lotions, as well as, other exciting skin care breakthroughs being developed in the laboratories of a New Zealand company.

Surprising Plastic Surgery Trends
In the past seven years plastic surgery has moved from a Hollywood-centered activity that was viewed as a medical curiosity of the famous and wealth to a mainstream practice that has drawn interest from almost everyone from all walks of life. There are now television shows, books, website and even full time blogs all dedicated to the wonders of plastic surgery and how it can change a person’s life.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons keeps statistics from all of its members about what how many procedures are performed a year and it’s an interesting look at what was popular seven years ago and what is popular today. These trends all compare the calendar year of 2000 with the calendar year of 2007.
Here are some of the surprising statistics when you compare plastic surgeries from 2000 to 2007:
The number of breast lifts rose 97% in just seven years. This procedure is also known as Mastopexy and it’s one of the many procedures that has grown in popularity over time as the procedure itself has been refined and improved over the years. It is performed by taking up some of the excess skin around the breast and literally tightening or lifting the breast on a woman. It can be performed with or without an accompanying breast enlargement. It’s a good alternative for women who want to make their breast appear more youthful without making them larger.
The number of buttock lifts, while still relatively small, has increased about 143% in the past seven years, mostly due to an increase in surgeon skills and technology over the years. You are starting to hear about this procedure more and more in the mainstream media, which may also be a reason for its increase in popularity. In 2007 there were over 3,000 buttock lift surgical procedures performed.
Having a lower body lift or Belt Lipectomy has jumped from only a few hundred in 2000 to more than 8,500 in 2007. It’s actually a series of procedures which usually includes cosmetic surgery on the abdomen, thighs and buttocks. The procedures can all be done at once or spread over a period of time according to the patient’s desires and needs.
Upper Arm lists jumped an amazing 4041% over a seven year period, partially due to a number of people losing massive amounts of weight and then needing to have some of the excess arm skin taken up. This procedure has also been getting more media attention which has lead to a greater increase in the general population.
The use of Botox is also one of the biggest trends from 2000 to 2007, though Botox injects are only a minor procedure compared to some of the more serious surgical procedures listed above. Botox usage saw an increase of over 475% in seven years.
It is interesting to note that many of these procedures have become much more popular over the years as various forms of gastric bypass surgery became popular and more prevalent. Most of the procedures that saw dramatic increases are at least indirectly the result of people undergoing some sort of surgical procedure to lose large amounts of weight and then needing these cosmetic procedures to help put their body back into shape again.
Overall it is clear that plastic surgery itself is becoming more popular as the general population grows older the technology of plastic surgery becomes more advanced.

Truth About Silicone Implants: Affordable Cosmetic Plastic Surgery in the Philippines
Numerous case reports in the 1980s appeared to suggest a linkage between silicone gel implants and connective tissue diseases and symptoms. The principal connective tissue disorders included scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren syndrome, dermatomyositis, polymyositis, and polymyalgia rheumatica. There was also a concern over the possibility that the implants were linked to breast cancer and problems in breast-fed newborns. In response to this, the US-FDA in 1992 issued a moratorium on silicone breast implants and restricts the use of the implants for breast reconstruction and clinical studies only.
Subsequently, a number of large, population-based retrospective studies were conducted to test the association between silicone breast implants and connective tissue disorders. All studies have concluded that there is no association between silicone breast implants and any connective tissue disease. In addition, since the moratorium on silicone breast implants, several studies have proved that these devices are safe and do not cause connective tissue disease, malignancy, or risk to breast-feeding infants. Furthermore, clinical studies conducted by the British Department of Health and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences both demonstrate that silicone breast implants are safe for pregnancy, lactation, and breast-feeding.
In 1999, a landmark report, undertaken by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) concluded that silicone implants do not cause major health problems such lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. And while no one can ignore the fact that silicone – and saline – breast implants may cause localized problems for some patients, numerous scientific studies over the years have shown that silicone gel-filled implants are both safe and effective for breast augmentation and reconstruction. In fact, silicone gel breast implants are widely used in 60 countries around the world including Europe, and now are available for use in the U.S. market.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced November 17, 2006 the approval and availability of silicone gel-filled breast implants, ending a 14-year ban on the use of silicone implants for cosmetic breast surgery. Now all women over 22 years old seeking cosmetic breast augmentation and women seeking breast reconstruction surgery will be able to select silicone breast implants. The availability of silicone gel implants will create new options for women considering breast surgery for the first time and for those who have had previous surgeries but are seeking new replacements or revision.
Silicone breast implants offer several advantages over saline implants. They also have some disadvantages, so you and your surgeon should carefully weigh the pros and cons, if you are considering this option.
The major benefits of silicone breast implants are in the realm of a more natural look and feel. These implants are filled with silicone gel, which is softer and more natural (in the way it feels to the touch) than saline breast implants. They feel so soft and natural, that it is often impossible to discern them from natural breast tissue.
Rippling is far less likely to occur in women with silicone implants than in women with saline implants. This is because silicone gel is far more viscous (thicker) than saline, so it does not move or slosh, as saline can. Silicone implants can be placed over the muscle in women with little body fat or little breast tissue without the aesthetic concerns (rippling) associated with placing saline implants over the muscle in these women.

Sex Change Surgery, Though Difficult To Obtain, Is Believed To Be Conducted Thousands Of Times Each Year
Transsexuality has existed since the ancient time. As medical advancement develops, options grow for those who wish to physically change their gender. With the rapid advances in knowledge of sex hormones and plastic surgery, sex change operation finally became achievable.
During the 1950’s, the use of newfound sex hormones helped a large number of transsexuals obtain the physical features of the desired gender – bigger breast, softer skin and a more feminine of masculine figure. And during the same period of time, in 1954, American transsexual Christine Jorgensen was among the first to undergo a sex change surgery. Due to the success, sex reassignment surgery, also known by its abbreviated form SRS, became increasingly popular.
The most common purposes of such a surgery include:
- To assign one sex to babies with gender identity disorder, or
- To alter the sex for men and women who are physically a different sex than they are mentally. In this case, SRS is usually performed at the age of 18-21 when the patient is of a legal age to decide on medical treatment without having to ask the parents.
Most cases are known to be successful, especially conversion from male to female. Babies with an ambiguous gender are usually assigned to the female gender unless the male organ is more obvious.
Male to female surgery involves removal of the penis, reshaping genital tissue, creating labia majora, sensate minor and arousement with sensate clitoris with average 5-7 inches constructing a vagina. Conversion from female to male is more difficult due to the complication of creating a functioning penis from the female genitals. Besides the genital organs, the breasts need to be surgically altered (removal for a more male appearance, and enlargement for a female appearance). This stage is more easily accomplished.
There has been a report of 68%-86% overall success rates for sex reassignment surgery. Thailand is especially famous for offering such a surgery, so much so that advertisements are often seen in publications. Sex reassignment surgeries are relatively cheap and easy compared to the United States and Europe, and Bangkok boasts some of the world’s most renowned surgeons. Some people have traveled around the world to receive a treatment in any of Thailand’s 33 accredited hospitals that offer such a procedure. It is estimated that 1,500 operations occur in Thailand each year, and the cost can be as cheap as a few thousand US dollars.
The procedure takes only four to six hours, but follow-up is a lot of work. “It is just hard to motivate yourself to [get up to walk after the surgery], as being in bed is nice, but walking when it is time to walk is extremely important and necessary,” said Audra, an American patient who underwent an SRS at Bangkok Plastic Surgery Clinic. “Make sure to following all instructions and never second guess those that are there to help you. They will not lead you down a road to failure; they will take you down the road of success.” As more people travel abroad for medical care, they must be aware of possible dangers and complications that can arise when the patient returns home, as well as follow the instructions with extra heed. Side effects and adverse reactions might occur after surgery, and it should also be noted that most procedures are irreversible.

Plastic Surgery and Cosmetic Surgery
There is a difference between plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery, even though a lot of people would refer to them as one and the same thing. In a way, they can be the same thing. Both refer to the correction of form and function of the body parts concerned. However, cosmetic surgery specifically concentrates on the enhancement of appearance, and is actually just one division of plastic surgery. The reason why it is so closely tied to the general category of plastic surgery is because people generally undergo surgery to improve upon their appearances.
There are many other fields under plastic surgery. Aside from cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery also includes craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, burn surgery, microsurgery, and pediatric surgery. All of which contributes mostly to the improvement of body functions and partly to change one’s appearance.
Plastic surgery is performed mainly for the purpose of correcting impairments and abnormalities in the body. These would include fixing up burns, bone fractures, physical abnormalities, infections, and removing cancers or tumors. People can avail of surgical procedures for a cleft lip surgery, breast reconstruction, or for creating an ear when there is none.
Cosmetic surgery, as a subcategory of plastic surgery, focuses more on the changing or improving of one’s appearance. It can be with the purpose of maintaining one’s normal appearance, restoring it, or enhancing it to become more ideal in appearance. Plastic surgeons are also trained in cosmetic surgery, as it is part of their broad field of surgical procedures.
The following are the most popular cosmetic procedures that are being performed today. Most of these have already even earned prevalent nicknames.
Abdominoplasty: Also known simply as tummy tuck, this is the reshaping and firming of the abdomen.
Blepharoplasty: Many would prefer to call this as eyelid surgery, wherein the procedure aims to reshape the eyelids or apply permanent eyeliner.
Mammoplasty: Procedures of mammoplasty concern the breasts. Breast augmentation, or breast enlargement, involves the use of fat grafting, sline, or silicone gel prosthetics to make the breasts bigger. It is more commonly known as a boob job. Breast reduction, on the other hand, is the removal of skin and glandular tissue in order to make the breasts smaller (specially for those suffering from gigantomastia and gynecomastia). The breast lift, or mastopexy, involves lifting or reshaping the breasts to make them less saggy.
Buttock Augmentation: A simpler term for this would be butt implants. Butt implants refer to the enhancement of the buttocks, with either silicone or fat grafting.
Chemical Peel: This procedure minimizes facial scars like acne and pock, and can also decrease wrinkles, freckles, and other facial damages.
Labiaplasty: This refers to the reduction and reshaping of the labia.
Rhinoplasty: This is better known as the nose job.
Otoplasty: This refers to ear surgery.
Rhytidectomy: This is the removal of wrinkles and aging signs from the face, popularly known as the face lift.
Other well-known cosmetic surgical procedures are liposuction, chin augmentation, cheek augmentation, and more. The number of people seeking cosmetic surgical treatment grows with each passing year. There are even those who would go to other countries where surgical procedures cost less.
Despite the popularity of cosmetic surgery, and that it goes under plastic surgery, one must bear in mind that plastic surgery does not directly refer to aesthetic or cosmetic surgery.

Endoscopic Plastic Surgery
Endoscopic plastic surgery minimizes incision size using an endoscope functions as a viewing device. It consists of a tubular probe fitted with a tiny camera and bright light, which is inserted through a small incision; and a viewing screen to magnify the transmitted images of the body’s internal structures. The surgeon watches the screen while moving the tube through the surgical area.
Advantages of Endoscopy
Because it involves smaller incisions, endoscopy leaves very minimal scarring. To insert the probe, only a few incisions less than one inch long are required. For procedures such as breast augmentation, only two incisions may be necessary. Shorter incisions also reduce risk of sensory loss due to nerve damage. Also, bleeding, bruising and swelling may be significantly reduced.
Furthermore, the recovery period tends to be shorter with no need for an overnight hospital stay. Many endoscopic procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation.
Special consideration and risks
The endoscopic plastic surgery approach has only recently been applied to plastic surgery procedures. There are some known risks, which vary in severity depending on the procedure being performed. These include infection, fluid accumulation beneath the skin (which must be drained), blood vessel damage, nerve damage or loss of feeling, internal perforation injury, and skin injury.
And, keep in mind that if a complication occurs at any time during the operation your surgeon may have to switch to an open procedure, which will result in a more extensive scar and a longer recovery period. However, to date, such complications are rare—estimated to occur in less that 5 percent of all endoscopic procedures.
